Decide what your current setup is missing
Name the specific limitation: existing-file uploads, more submission context, transcripts, or several collection pages. If SpeakPipe already handles your messages and downloads well, moving also means updating links, testing embeds, and preserving old recordings.

The free recorder is not the free voicemail plan
SpeakPipe’s standalone voice recorder (opens in a new tab) has a five-minute limit and says uploaded recordings are stored for three months. It makes a recording you can share by link.
The Free voicemail plan (opens in a new tab) instead lists unlimited messages within 100 MB, a 90-second limit, one widget, and one voicemail page. The standalone recorder’s five minutes are not the free widget’s allowance.

SpeakPipe lists:
- Gold: USD 15 monthly or USD 144 annually, equivalent to USD 12 per month. Five-minute messages and 50 GB of storage.
- Premium: USD 45 monthly or USD 432 annually, equivalent to USD 36 per month. Ten-minute messages and 500 GB of storage.
whatayarn Creator costs USD 19 monthly or USD 180 annually, equivalent to USD 15 per month. It includes up to five pages, unlimited messages, ten-minute recordings, and Creator page/form controls.
Annual equivalents require the annual commitment. Check the billing period, currency, applicable taxes, and checkout total.
A short-question show
If answers fit within 90 seconds and standard fields are enough, SpeakPipe Free may already work. Monitor storage and save important audio. whatayarn Free can test its listener-page workflow, but the 25-message lifetime allowance does not reset monthly.
A show collecting longer stories
A six-minute story will exceed SpeakPipe Gold’s limit. Compare the ten-minute options: whatayarn Creator has a lower listed subscription price than SpeakPipe Premium, but does not replace Premium’s voice-reply workflow.
Several shows or campaigns
whatayarn Creator includes five pages. SpeakPipe distinguishes widgets from voicemail pages; multiple widgets should not be counted automatically as independent collection pages. Check the destinations your plan actually includes.
whatayarn: a fit for structured listener submissions
Use whatayarn when a recording and its context should arrive together. A fictional advice show might ask for the question, its topic, and the name to use on air. Creator custom forms support that pattern; the host still reviews what is suitable to publish.
Listeners can record or upload, within the plan and page’s recording limits. Share the page from show notes or embed it in a website that permits microphone-enabled iframes. The embed is not SpeakPipe’s dialog launcher.
What you would give up
whatayarn has no native voice-reply thread, transcription, or shared team assignment. Public pages retain whatayarn attribution, so custom styling is not full white labelling.
If audio replies are central to your show, account for the separate tool or extra work before switching.
telbee: a fit for transcripts and team replies
telbee’s pricing table (opens in a new tab) lists transcription and voice replies, with collaboration features on Pro and Team. Paid recording limits extend to 15 minutes.
Free includes 60 voice minutes and 60 transcription minutes monthly, one-minute recordings, and one month of history. Starter costs USD 18 monthly or USD 162 annually; Pro costs USD 30 monthly or USD 270 annually.

Vocaroo: enough for an occasional one-off recording
Vocaroo can suit a non-sensitive recording sent by link. Its FAQ (opens in a new tab) explains sharing and retention limits; download anything you need to keep.

Check the embed before changing your website
MDN’s browser-capture documentation (opens in a new tab) explains HTTPS and iframe permission requirements. Test the recorder on your actual website, not just the provider’s standalone preview:
- Open the HTTPS page on a phone and computer.
- Check that controls fit and remain usable.
- Allow the microphone, record non-sensitive audio, and listen back.
- Submit it and find it in the correct account.
- Deny microphone permission once and check the explanation.
- Offer a direct link to the hosted page as a fallback.
SpeakPipe’s FAQ also rules out embedding its recorder directly in email; use a link instead. In-app browsers can behave differently, so explain how to open the page in a normal browser if recording fails.
How to switch without losing the working parts
Save the recordings. Download audio you need, together with submission details and publication notes. A new subscription does not import that history automatically.
Rebuild one invitation. Keep the question and recording length consistent while comparing the services. Require only fields you will use.
Test the whole process. Submit as a listener, find the message as a creator, download it, and open it in your editor. Test voice replies separately if needed.
Update your links. Check website embeds, show-note templates, profiles, newsletters, QR destinations, and outro scripts. Old episode audio can still direct people to the previous service.
Monitor both inboxes. Choose a review date before cancelling and confirm what happens to stored messages. Changing your website link does not redirect the old third-party voicemail page.
If whatayarn fits, create a page and complete that test before inviting your audience.
