whatayarn is our starting recommendation if Typeform’s response allowance is the problem. Free has no monthly response cap within fair use and includes logic, calculations and file uploads, and removing branding costs US$19 a month on Creator, the lowest price in our volume table below. Choose Tally if you need payments on a free plan, Youform to keep a one-question-at-a-time layout, Fillout for forms that feed a database, Jotform for operational forms with payments, and Paperform for a form that reads like a designed page. Stay with Typeform if a working form and its integrations already justify the bill.
Typeform’s free plan allows 10 responses a month across the account, and its paid plans are priced by response volume. As one researcher put it, “Typeform is great but a bit too expensive for our needs” (r/UXResearch (opens in a new tab)). Price the whole requirement before switching: response volume, branding, uploads and the integration your answers feed.
What Typeform’s plans actually limit
Typeform’s Free plan (opens in a new tab) includes unlimited forms, branching, calculations and exports, but only 10 responses a month across the whole account. File uploads, payments and extra users need a paid plan. A common complaint that logic is paid-only is out of date: Free includes it.
Paid plans are set by monthly responses. The pricing page (opens in a new tab) lists:
| Plan | Monthly billing | Billed yearly (per month) | Responses a month | Users | Branding |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | US$39 | US$28 | 100 | 1 | Shown |
| Plus | US$79 | US$56 | 1,000 | 3 | Removed |
| Business | US$129 | US$91 | 10,000 | 5 | Removed |
Uploads start on Basic, at 10 MB per file (opens in a new tab). So a public form that needs an attachment and no Typeform branding starts at Plus, whatever its volume.

whatayarn: build the form, then understand its answers
On whatayarn, conditional logic and calculated fields are free, so you can show follow-ups only when they apply, score a quiz or estimate a quote. Every question type is included on Free, including file uploads, signatures, rankings, matrices and voice answers. Respondents do not need an account.
After collection, the free Summary tab shows completed answers beside each question. Select a low rating to read what those people wrote. Standard AI columns sort written answers by sentiment, urgency, spam and whether they need a reply. On Creator, Funnel and respondent journeys show where people stop.
Free includes unlimited forms and responses within fair use, with 100 MB of storage across the account and uploads up to 5 MB per file. Creator removes branding, raises storage to 50 GB and costs US$19 a month or US$180 a year.
Choose something else if you need payments, integrations or a one-question-at-a-time layout today. whatayarn uses pages, so you can put one question on each, but it is not Typeform’s animated flow. Start from a template or rebuild your questions.
Tally: when you need payments on a free plan
Tally’s pricing page (opens in a new tab) gives Free unlimited forms and submissions within fair use, with conditional logic, calculations, file uploads, payments and signatures. Respondents can upload files without an account (opens in a new tab), up to 10 MB each on Free.
Choose something else if the one-question-at-a-time presentation is the point. Tally forms look like a document. Branding removal, custom domains and team collaboration need Pro (opens in a new tab), at US$29 a month or US$290 a year.
Youform: keep the presentation, lose the cap
Youform offers a similar question-by-question layout. Its pricing (opens in a new tab) lists unlimited forms and responses within fair use on Free, with logic, calculations, hidden fields and integrations. Pro, at US$29 a month or US$240 a year, removes branding and adds a custom domain, Stripe payments and partial responses.
Choose something else if you need payments on a free plan, or more than one person editing forms without upgrading.
Fillout: when the answers feed another tool
Fillout makes sense when the form is the front of a database or workflow. The Free plan (opens in a new tab) includes 1,000 responses a month, unlimited forms and seats, uploads up to 20 MB per file, logic, calculations, payments and standard integrations. The badge stays until Pro.
Paid plans are priced by volume, as Typeform’s are: Starter is US$19 monthly or US$180 a year for 2,000 responses, and Pro is US$49 monthly or US$480 a year for 5,000 with branding removed.
Choose something else if volume is your only problem: Fillout’s free plan caps responses at 1,000 a month, where Tally’s has no monthly cap.
Jotform: forms that start an operational process
Jotform suits registrations that take a payment, applications that need sign-off, and forms that produce a document. Its free plan caps submissions at 100 a month (opens in a new tab), with separate limits on forms, storage, payments and signed documents; our Jotform alternatives guide explains them.
Paperform: when the form is the page
Paperform combines text, images and questions into something closer to a landing page. Its Free plan (opens in a new tab) allows 30 submissions a month with logic and basic payments. Pro, at US$588 a year, adds unlimited submissions within fair use, calculations, scoring and branding removal. A custom domain on Pro costs extra.
Google Forms: when a plain survey is enough
For a simple internal questionnaire, Google Forms is free, has section branching and sends answers to Sheets. You give up control over design, and respondents must sign in to Google to upload files (opens in a new tab). Our Google Forms alternatives guide covers its limits.
Price the same form at three volumes
Here is a constructed example: a public feedback form with logic, no third-party branding and an optional attachment under 5 MB that few people use, on an account with no other forms. The table shows the cheapest plan that meets the response and branding requirements, at list price billed monthly.
| Responses a month | whatayarn | Typeform | Tally | Youform | Fillout |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | Creator, US$19 | Plus, US$79 | Pro, US$29 | Pro, US$29 | Pro, US$49 |
| 1,000 | Creator, US$19 | Plus, US$79 | Pro, US$29 | Pro, US$29 | Pro, US$49 |
| 5,000 | Creator, US$19 | Business, US$129 | Pro, US$29 | Pro, US$29 | Pro, US$49 |
whatayarn’s Creator plan is the cheapest option at every volume. Typeform’s branding removal starts on Plus, and at 5,000 responses a month only Business fits. whatayarn, Tally and Youform cover all three volumes on one plan within their fair-use terms; check those terms if you expect sustained high volume. Fillout Pro includes 5,000 responses, so the third row sits at its limit.
If you can live with branding, the free response allowances of whatayarn, Tally and Youform cover all three volumes, and Fillout’s covers up to 1,000. Uploads are the catch: storage adds up, and whatayarn Free holds 100 MB across the account. Estimate your attachments before relying on a free plan.
Yearly billing lowers most of these figures. It also commits you for twelve months, so try the replacement with real responses first.
Move without losing your answers
- Export first. Download your Typeform responses and any uploaded files before you cancel. Your response history stays with the old tool.
- Rebuild, then test every branch. Check each logic path and recalculate any scores against a few known answers.
- Reconnect where answers go. Integrations, webhooks and email notifications do not move with the form.
- Answer it as a stranger. Use a signed-out browser and a phone. Try the upload, the longest path and the thank-you screen.
- Replace every link. Update website embeds, emails and QR codes, then close the old form so late replies do not land in two places.
